Liquid compass

Bowl: Brass painted black. Glazed top and bottom. Fixed prism sight. Two expansion chambers on outside. Set in double gimbals. White on inside with black lubber spike below sight.
Card: Mica. White with black markings graduated to quarter points and 0 - 90 in degrees quadrantally on inner and outer scales. Domed float at centre. Diameter 5" (12.75 cm)
Needle: Two needles set in tubes which are attached to float.
Pivot: Unsighted.
Sight: Has a movable prism inside.
