Holmes master compass and binnacle

Bowl: Dia 10.0" (25.4 cm) Glass bowl, filler plug and expansion chamber at base. Carried in a white painted brass frame, mounted in a white painted brass gimbal ring 12.0" (30.5 cm) dia, attached to binnacle. A brass verge ring, graduared to 360 deg., is mounted on inner edge of binnacle.
Card: Dia 6.75" (17.2 cm) Black mica with white markings, graduated to 1/4 points and to 360 deg. Electrical contacts are mounted below the card.
Needle: Unsighted.
Pivot: Unsighted.
Binnacle: 'Kelvin Type' Dia 16" (40.6 cm) Wood with brass top. Fitted with a clinometer, sphere bracket and spheres, a Flinders Bar 24.5" (62.2 cm) long, double doors giving access to electrical mechanism and follow-up meter, fore-and-aft and athwartship corrector magnet racks, and a vertical brass tube containing the vertical corrector magnets. No hood.
