Queen's Waterman's uniform: pattern 1952
The coat is constructed from a red raised wool fabric with a heavy, twill woven blue, raised wool, lining. The coat has a very full skirt that gathers into the straight upper section of the coat. The front opening closes by means of four buttons, a front panel then covers the central opening. This carries the large metal badges, and is attached by means of 8 pairs of gold (brass alloy), domed buttons. The back of the coat also has several large metal buttons attached to it by means of webbing straps hidden behind an extra panel of fabric that is stitched to the verso. The metal badges have been coloured in places with transparent lacquers. The sleeve opens at the cuff with five buttons. The red standing collar is decorated at the front with flashes of blue velvet with a central gold, domed button. The sleeve tops are covered with an extra cap of fabric.
