Submarine liquid compass

Bowl: Grey painted brass, filler plug at side, two expansion chambers at side. A heavy metal balancing ring is fitted to base around glazed bottom of bowl. Inside of bowl painted white with a black wire lubber pointer projecting from the side. Mounted in grey painted brass gimbal ring 6.5" (16.5 cm) dia. which is secured in binnacle. Fitted with an azimuth circle of the 'large prism' type, with a large prism, two dark shades, dark glass reflector, and spirit level mounted on circle. Onn the circle opposite the prism there is a balancing weight.

Card: Dia 3.25" (8.3 cm) White painted mica? with black markings, graduated to 32 points, and quadrantally in degrees with a second set of graduations for use with azimuth circle. Attached to black painted float at centre.

Needle: Unsighted.

Pivot: Unsighted, but stem can be seen attached to bridge mounted across bottom of bowl.

Binnacle: Dia. 7.5" (19.0 cm) Black painted brass and wood, hood fitted with handle and two oval glazed apertures with covers and shutters. Fitted with athwartship brackets and corrector spheres. An electric supply socket is mounted on side. Access to vertical corrector magnets is by sliding door on fore side. Access to fore-and-aft magnets is by small hinged doors. A shutter operated dimmer is fitted at side.
