Apprentice's black wool cap badge of the shipping company Chadwick, Wainwright & Company over a core. The badge contains a blue rectangular flag of applied ribbed silk fabric with a white diamond of applied ribbed silk fabric in the centre of the flag. ‘C W & Co’ is embroidered in blue silk thread within the diamond. Applied gold coil outlines both the flag and diamond. There is black silk thread work around the perimeter of the flag. The flag is surrounded by laurel leaves of gold purl and stems of gold coil bound at the base with gold purl.
The badge is backed with a black wool blend fabric. The remains of a paper label are visible ’80, Lord …. Liverpool’.
