Cap badge, Blue Star Line
Black wool cap badge of the shipping company Blue Star Line over a core. The badge contains a red swallowtail flag of applied ribbed silk fabric with a blue five-pointed star embroidered with silk thread. Applied gold coil outlines the flag. The flag is surrounded by laurel leaves of gold purl and stems of gold coil. The gold plate branches are bound at the base with gold purl.
The reverse of the badge is backed with a black wool blend fabric and has a label with the maker’s details ‘A. OLIVER & SON, Naval outfitters, 107 Fenchurch St., LONDON E.C. 3.’
