Liquid compass
Bowl: Aluminium, painted black, inside painted white. Wire lubber line projects down from verge ring. Aluminium verge ring has scribed black line (above lubber line). A lifter is fitted to base of bowl to operate a peculiarly arranged frame and pointer fitted to an auxilliary ring of mica (?) outside edge of compass card. There is an aperture in the afterside of bowl for lighting card. Mounted in aluminium gimbals which are supported in two rubber discs carried on a bracket, to damp out vibrations.
Card: Mica (?) with black numerals and lettering on white ground. Graduated to 360 degrees and in half points. Card attached by four wire struts to a white painted float at centre. Outside rim of card is a mica ring attached by three wires to an arrangement at centre which is connected in some way to the card lifter at base of bowl. The purpose of this latter arrangement is unknown.
