Liquid compass - aircraft

Liquid compass. Bowl: Grey painted brass, two filler plugsat side, expansion chamber at base. Inside of bowl painted white. Lubber line consists of a black line painted on a bracket whcih forms part of the bridge at base of bowl to whcih pivot stem is secured, and whcih is continued up to the verge ring. Mounted in outer grey metal casing, Diameter 8.25" (21.0cm) by four corrugated spring attached to side of bowl and bottom of casing, to damp out vibration. There are traces of the horse-hair packing.
Card: Diameter 4.5" (11.5cm) Mica, black with transparent markings, graduated to 360 degs. At centre of card is a float, painted black.
Needles: Two magnets of circular section mounted below card.
Pivot: Unsighted. Inverted type, with stem attached to bridge at base of bowl.
