Button, Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1774-87
Smooth edge. On a smooth background is an anchor with the stock slanting slightly down to the left. The rope is tied to the ring at the top then goes under the right-hand side of the stock, over the shank to the left, then under the shank to the right and then over the right arm and curls under the crown to the left. This style of button was worn by Captains, Commanders, Masters and Mates, Surgeons, Pursers, Warrant Officers and Midshipmen between 1774 - 1860.
