Thirteen buttons have a twisted rope edge. Within a circular raised border on a smooth background is a post-1901 crown above a fouled anchor with the rope going under the right-hand stock, then over the shank to the left and then under the shank to the right and under the right-hand fluke. Commissioned officers.
The four smallest buttons have a twisted rope edge. On a lined background is a pre-1901 crown with a fouled anchor below it. Captain's/Commander's/warrant officer buttons 1843 - 1891.
