Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1812-25
Full dress coat of Admiral George Bowen. Blue woollen fabric with knap, silk lining. Hand sewn. White lapels with nine gilt buttons (flat with anchor and crown within laurel wreath). Two rows of gold lace round collar and one round lapels which have laced button holes. Three buttons on sleeve with laced decorative button holes. White cuffs edged with gold lace with three rows of distinction lace. Gold lace round working pockets and flaps. Flaps have laced dummy button holes, three buttons below flap. Centre back vent in coat tails edged with gold lace coming to a point at the top. Three stripes of lace either side of the upper part of the vent. Two sets of pleats each side with one row of gold lace and three gilt buttons per pleat. Front edge of skirts laced.
