Liquid compass
Bowl: Black painted white metal, two filer plugs at side, expansion chamber at base. Fitted with inner verge ring graduated with two 180 degree scales adjacent to one another. The outer scale graduated from 270 degrees through 360 degrees to 90 degrees; inner scale from 90 degs through 180 to 270 degrees. A moveable pointer was set to the course to be steered and the aircraft turned till one end of the compass pointer coincided with it.
Card: Consists of two long magnets with a metal pointer at each end, N red ans S white. No float is attached, centre of magnets carries pivot cap of the inverted type.
Pivot: Of the inverted type with a brass stem attached to a bridge which is fitted across base of bowl. The pivot point engages in underside of pivot cap mounted at centre of magnets. A needle projecting down from centre of verge glass, engages in top of pivot cap to prevent it lifting off pivot.
