Rating cap with cap ribbon
Early example of a regulation cap for a naval rating. The cap is of blue wool with a black silk ribbon with 'HMS Niobe' woven in gold-coloured silk thread in gothic script. The cap is soft, and lined with brown cotton that has been quilted in concentric circles to shape it. The cap band is reinforced with leather.
