Frock
Chief Petty Officer William Figg’s White duck frock with collar faced with blue jean as are the peaked cuffs. The collar is edged with three rows of white tape. The peaks of the cuffs are edged with two rows of tape, while the bottom is edged with one row. There is a blue watch stripe on the right shoulders. On the left arm is the badge of a Chief Petty Officer of crossed fouled anchors below a crown. These are embroidered in blue thread. The badge is above two chevrons awarded for good conduct.
Good conduct badges were introduced in 1849 and were awarded for very good character. The first one was awarded after a period of five years and the second after ten years. In 1860 the number of years required for the first badge was reduced from five to three and a second and third could be awarded after eight and 13 years respectively.
