Frock, pre-regulation
Hand sewn and worn by Joseph Edwin Moore (1841-1920), who served as a seaman from 1854-65. This frock pre-dates regulations and features one row of white tape on each of the cuffs and a row on the collar. It is stamped ‘J.E. Moore’ at the bottom on each side. There are tapes for fastening a handkerchief at the neck. There is also one eyelet hole at each hip so garment can be tied to washing line.
