Dry card compass

Bowl- Brass, of the hanging or overhead type. Inside painted white. There are four lubber lines deeply scribed on inside of bowl and two corresponding cross lines are scribed on the underside of the verge glass. Mounted in heavy brass gimbal ring.
Card- Diameter 5.5" (14.0cm) Mica covered with paper, white with black markings graduated quadrantally in degrees and to 1/2 points. North point marked by a star and crown and anchor device. On underside of card at E & w points are two brass weights.
Needle- Flat bar type 5.5" (14.0cm) long with expanded cntre into which is screwed a cone-shaped pivot cup with jewel at top.
Pivot- Consists of a brass stem with asteel tip which is secured at centre of verge glass. At base of bowl is a large brass cylinder which prevents card coming off of pivot if bowl is inverted.
