Boat's liquid compass

Bowl- Black painted brass, filler plug at side, expansion chamber at base. Inside of bowl painted white, with a black painted lubber line. Mounted in brass gimbal ring and contained in a black metal binnacle, dims. 6.5" x 6.5" x 10.0" (16.5 x 16.5 x 25.4cm). The upper portion of the front is glazed. Provided with carrying handle at top, a lamp at side, and a hook on back for hanging on a socket in boat.
Card- Diameter 4.0" (10.2cm) curved metal vertical card, white with black markings, graduated on inner surface to 1/2 points. Supported on one tubular arm, which supplies the necessary floatation, pivot mounted at centre of arm.
Needle- Unsighted, possibly contained in tubular arm.
Pivot- Unsighted. Pivot stem attached to base of bowl carries a pivot which engages in jewel cup carried at centre of tubular arm.
