Liquid compass and binnacle
Bowl- Dia. 12.4" (31.5cm) Green, painted brass, filler plug at side, no expansion chamber is visible. Heavy balancing weight incorporating electric light is fitted to base. Brass verge ring graduated to 360 degs. Inside of bowl painted white with four black lubber lines carried on white metal strips. Verge glass has a brass spigot at centre. Mounted in a black painted gimbal ring 14.5" (37cm) dia.
Card- Dia. 7.5" (19cm) White painted metal(?) with black markings, graduated to 1/4 points and to 360 degs with a secomd set of graduations 180 deg out of phase.
Binnacle- Dia. of base and top 16.5"(42cm) Dia. at centre 12.25" (31cm). Black painted metal. A double door on aft side gives access to the inside where a central tube carries the magnets for correcting heeling error, also carrying two racks for the horizontal correcting magnets. Sphere brackets and spheres are mounted. A hand rail runs around the upper part of the binnacle and four hinged eyes are provided to take guys to assist in securing it to the deck. Hood has two oval apertures and two oil lamps brackets (oil lamp missing).
