Cap badge, Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service Marine Services Officer (Qualified Pilot)

Cap badge. It has been suggested that the badge is that of a Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service Marine Services Officer (Qualified Pilot). A King's or Queen's Harbour Master is a Royal Naval four ringed Captain who controls all shipping movementswithin heis area of responsibility and thus the RMAS came under his commmand. The RMAS Masters who are qualified Admiralty Pilots as well as being Masters of their own vesels, come under his direct control which is why in additions to having a different and distinctive cap badge of a Pilot Jack, they also have privelege of the letters K.H.M or Q.H.M. on the badge.
