Liquid compass and binnacle
Bowl-Black painted brass, filler plug at side, expansion chamber incorporated with glazed bottom of bowl. Black painted brass verge ring graduated to 360 deg. Inside of bowl silvered with two black painted lubber lines carried on white strips attached to sides 180 degs apart. Mounted in a black painted brass gimbal ring 13" (33cm) dia.
Card- Dia. 8.8" (22.5cm) White painted mica with black markings, graduated to 1/4 points and to 360 degs. attached to a black painted float at centre.
Binnacle-Dia. 15" (38cm) Wooden pedestal with two brass hoops, brass clinometer, and two brass rods on which ellipsoids are mounted (as quadrantal correctors instead of spheres). Two wooden doors in binnacle give access to fore and aft and athwartship corrector magnet racks. The "bucket" for the vertical corector magnets has been removed. Hood- Brass with a large oval aperture with lid on one side and a smaller oval aperture with cover on the other. There is a round aperture with brass cap at the top. Two oil lamp brackets complete with oli lamps are fitted.
