Liquid compass and binnacle.

Bowl: Dia 11.75" (30.0 cm) Grey painted brass, filler plug at side, expansion chamber at base. The bowl is lit from above by 12 tubular lamps, in series, housed in a detachable verge ring which is graduated to 360 deg. The verge glass has a brass spigot at its centre to which an azimuth sight can be attached. Inside of bowl painted black with two black wire lubber lines carried on two white plastic strips attached to the underside of the verge ring. Mounted in a black painted brass gimbal ring 13.4" (34.0 cm) dia attached to binnacle.

Card: Dia 8.9" (22.5 cm) White painted mica? ring with black markings, graduated to 360 deg with a second row of reversed graduations 180 deg out of phase, and in 1/4 points. Attatached by a wire framework to a black painted float at centre.

Needle: There are six flat bar needles 7.25" (18.5 cm) long mounted in two layers of three either side of float.

Binnacle: Dia of base 20.0" (50.8 cm) Dia at centre 9.5" (24.1 cm) Dia at top 15.5" (39.4 cm). Dark grey painted metal binnacle with brass fittings. Provision is made for electric light, horizontal magnets are carried in metal tubes (unsighted), and 'D' correction is made by means of flat plates (unsighted) inserted into tubular containers projecting on each side of the binnacle.
Hood: Dark grey painted brass with large oval glazed aperture with cover (at front), round aperture with cover at top, two lamp brackets with oil lamps on either side.
