Liquid compass and binnacle

Liquid compass.

Bowl: Black painted aluminium?, filler plug at side, exceptionally deep expansion chamber at base. Inside of bowl painted black with four black lubber lines carried on long white painted metal strips secured to side of bowl and which extend 1.2" (3 cm) above card. Verge glass is hemi-spherical and has an electric lamp mounted at centre of glass dome. A light screen covering an arc of the bowl is fitted on the lamp fitting.

Card: Diameter 5.9" (15.0 cm) Metal strips white with black markings, graduated to 360 degrees attached by four crusiform float arms to pivot at centre.

Needle: Two flat needles mounted on a light framewark below float arms.

Pivot: Pivot stem mounted on base of bowl carries a pivot pin which engages in jewelled pivot cup carried at centre of float arms.

Binnacle: Grey painted aluminium, fitted with hollow cylinders athwart ships for 'D' correction, and scissors type 'B' and 'C' correctors pivoted at their ends. A binnacle hood with glazed oval aperture with cover is fitted.
