Liquid compass

Bowl: Dia 8.25" (21.0 cm) Grey painted brass, two filler plugs at side, expansion chamber at base. Electric light fitting at base. Brass verge rings graduated to 360 deg. Domed verge glass is fitted with a brass spigot at centre, for azimuthat sight, and two triangular shades. Inside of bowl black with four black lubber lines carried on white plastic strips attached to base of bowl. The bowl is fitted with a grey painted brass cover with two slits with shutters, onn top of which the alidade fits.

Card: Dia 6.9" (17.5 cm) White plastic ring with black markings, graduated to 360 deg, attached to a plastic framework to white plastic float at centre.

Needle: Two needles of flat section encased in plastic mounted below float.

Pivot: Unsighted but believed to consist of an inverted pivot with the jewel supported by a spring.

Telescopic alidade: Length 11.0" (28.0 cm) Grey painted alloy? made to mount on the central spigot. Fitted with a telescopic sight, a reversible reflector, black glass and mirror, and built-in shades. Open sights are fitted to top. OA height 9.0" (23 cm)

Binnacle: Dia 16.4" (41.5 cm) Grey painted plastic with grey painted metal fittings. Surfaces are provided for bolting on compass corrector coils. Inside inspection covers are scissor type correctors, sliding clamps for additional horizontal magnets and a vertical magnet tube. Hood grey painted alloy with a round glazed aperture with shutters.
