Liquid compass

Bowl: Brown painted brass. Inside of bowl white with two lubber lines painted on side. A heavy balancing weight fitted in bottom. Mounted in gimbal ring 6.8" (17.5 cm)

Card: Diameter 5" (12.7 cm) Mica covered with paper, white with black markings, graduated to 1/4 points. Underside of card is fitted with a black painted brass plate carrying the needles and the pivot cap.

Needle: Two magnets of circular section 3.5" (9.0 cm) long attached to card by a brass plate.

Pivot: Jewelled pivot cup, carried at centre of card, rests on a steel pivot point which is mounted in a brass stem secured to base of bowl.
