Liquid compass and binnacle.

Bowl: Dia. 9.5" (23.5 cm) Black painted brass, filler plug at side, expansion chamber at base incorporated with glazed bottom. Inside of bowl painted white with four black lubber lines painted on side. Verge glass carries a brass stud at centre to take an azimuth mirror. Mounted in a black painted brass gimbal ring 12.0" (30.5 cm) diameter.

Card: Dia. 7.7" (19.5 cm) White painted mica? ring with black markings, graduated to 1/4 points and to 360 degrees. Attached by a white wire framework to a large white painted float at centre.

Needle: Four long needles of circular section mounted below card.

Pivot: Unsighted

Binnacle: Octagonal wooden pillar with brass top and brass fittings. Diameter of pillar and top 14.2" (36.0 cm). Fitted with sphere brackets and one sphere, four corrector coils (two fore-and-aft and two athwartship). Four narrow wooden covers give access to fore-and-aft and athwartship corrector magnet racks and bucket for vertical corrector magnets.
Hood: Grey painted brass with large glazed oval aperture on one side and a small oval aperture with cover on the other side, there is a round aperture with cover at top. Fitted with oil lamp brackets at sides (complete with oil lamps).
