Liquid compass - aircraft
Liquid compass.
Bowl: Unpainted white metal. A skeleton framework is fitted round the bowl which carries roller gimbals and the lip to which the verge is secured. A reservoir to allow for expansion of the liquid is fitted. Two tubular recesses in the skeleton framework are provided for carrying glass capillary tubes. A glass bottom is fitted for illuminating the interior of the bowl and a false bottom accommodating an electric lamp. Inside of bowl unpainted and fitted with a lubber line on a white painted metal strip attached to side of bowl. Verge glass has metal fitting at centre to accommodate azimuth sight.
Card: White painted metal with black markings graduated to 360 degs secured to large float at centre.
Needle: Four flat bar magnets secured below float.
Pivot: Inverted. Stem carrying pivot cup attached to glass bottom.
