Liquid compass - aircraft
Liquid compass.
Bowl: Dark green painted heavy cast bowl. Filler plug at side, expansion chamber at base and gimbal bearings at side. Fitted with heavy metal ring at base. Inside of bowl unpainted with four enamelled lubber lines attached to side of bowl. Verge glass missing.
Card: Unpainted copper with the graduations to 360 degrees etched in the copper. Attached to a float at the centre.
Needle: Four flat bar needles mounted on the underside of the float.
Pivot: Bare needle type with steel tipped brass pin secured in brass stem which is attached to bridge at base of bowl. The float carries a jewelled pivot cap at its centre.
Mounted on black painted wooden plinth. Diameter 7.25" (18.4 cm)
