Liquid compass - aircraft compass

Liquid compass.

Bowl: The bowl itself is an expansion chamber. It has a heavy brass ring at the top and copper clips at the base. It is glazed top and bottom. Inside the brass ring is a screwed in ring which itself has six screws, this is repeated at the base. Filler screw at the top.

Card: Small mica card painted black with the markings left clear. Graduated to 8 points and 0 - 360 by degrees.

Needle: The two bar needles are set beneath the card.

Pivot: The card is pivoted at the top and bottom but it is impossible to see the exact construction.
