Button, Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1774-1812
Two flat buttons.
One button has a smooth edge. On a smooth background is a fouled anchor with the rope tied to the ring at the top. It goes under the left-hand stock, then under the shank to the right, then back under the shank to the left, under the left-hand fluke, curls under the crown and then under the right-hand arm.

It goes under the right-hand stock, then over the shank to the left, then under the shank to the right, under the right-hand fluke, curls under the crown and then comes under the left-hand fluke and out to the left.
Both possibly in use in 1784 - 1812 (Captain/Commander 1774 - 87 and Master & Mate, Surgeon, Purser, Warrant Officer, Midshipman from 1887 upto 1812).
