Universal sun compass
Cole's Mark I compass-consists of a black-painted alloy disc, graduated to 360 degs around outer edge. At the centre is attached a timeplate for latitudes 0-30 degs. This is engraved with a table of equation of time and can be slid bodily to allow for the declination, being set by a date scale. A gnomon (shadow pin) is fitted at centre with a shadow pointer. A spirit level is fitted at edge of disc. Mounted on a black-painted universal mounting. In fitted wooden box 9 x 9 x 4" (22.8 x 22.8 x 10.2cm) containing two shadow pins and instructions for use attached to inside of lid.
