917.2cm) dia. graduated to 1/4 points and AM & PM. Mounted at the centre is a vertical brass bar fitted with a pointer which is inscribed "BEARINGS DULL SUN". A narrow brass ring 7.75" (19.7cm) dia x 0.5" (1.5cm) wide, graduated 0-180, 0-180 rotates about the bearing plate. Mounted on a brass base plate 8.25" (21cm) to the base of which is attached a heavy lead balancing weight. The whole unit is mounted in a brass gimbal ring 8.75" (22.3cm) dia. which in turn is mounted in a wooden box 10.25 x 10.5 x 5.5" (26 x 26.7 x 14cm). Lid missing.
