Mark V

Bowl- Black painted brass, filler plug at side, expansion chamber at base incorporated with glazed bottom. Fitted with a black brass ring with an arrow attached to verge ring. Inside of bowl painted white with a black lubber line on a white strip projecting from side of bowl. Mounted in a brass gimbal ring 12.25" (31.1cm) dia.
Card - Dia. 6.5" (16.5cm) white painted mica ring with black markings. Graduated to 1/4 points and quadrantally in degrees. Attached by a wire framework to a white painted float at centre.
Needle- Two needles of circular section 4.25" (10.8cm) long, mounted below card on wire
framework.
Binnacle -Wooden pedestal, brass top 15" (38.1cm) dia. Fitted with case for a Flinders Bar 24.5" (62.2cm) long, sphere brackets, and a brassoli lamp. Two wooden doors in side of binnacle give access to fore and aft and athwartship corrector magnet racks and a bucket containing the heeling error magnets.
Hood - Fitted with a large oval glazed aperture with lid and shutters at top to which is fitted a box containing a mirror by whih the card is reflected up to a vertical position for ease of steering.
