Button, Port Line
Button worn on the uniform of the shipping company Port Line. White metal domed button with a rope twist outer border and a raised inner border. Rectangular white (indicated by no shading) flag with blue (indicated by horizontal shading) saltire overall under a red (indicated by vertical shading). Raised words ‘PORT’ above flag and ‘LINE’ below flag. All on flat ground.
Makers name inscribed on reverse 'FIRMIN LONDON'.
There is also some corrosion on the reverse of button. The button's shank is punched through the reverse of the button suggesting this is was an inexpensive button to manufacture.
Reference to the button can be found in ‘Buttons: A Guide for Collectors’ by Gwen Squire 1972 (No. 20, Plate 85).
