Prismatic alidade
An instrument of the Schmalcalder type. This instrument has the prism and shades on the back sight, which is a slit and spyhole. The open arch and thread fore sight also carries the celestial reflector. The diameter is cut away but has a crossbar at centre to hold the hole which accommodates the compass spigot. The thread runs along the complete diameter.
