Prismatic alidade
This is of the Schmalcalder type. Consists of a diameter which is cut away and two hinged sights. the diameter has a crossbar at the centre which attaches to the compass spigot. The back sight is a slit with a V notch and it also carries the prism and one shade. The fore sight is open arch and thread, the thread runs along the whole length of base.
