Button, Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1787-1860
Button. Smooth edge. On a smooth background is an anchor with the rope tied to the ring at the top. The rope goes over the right-hand side of the stock, over the shank to the left, then under the shank to the right and then under the right fluke and curls under the crown to the left and then under the left fluke. This style of button was worn by Captains, Commanders, Masters and Mates, Surgeons, Pursers, Warrant Officers and Midshipmen at different periods between 1774 - 1860. Dug up in Antigua.
