Button, Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1774-1860
Four buttons. Flat buttons. Smooth edge. On a smooth background is a fouled anchor. A design that was used for captain and commanders, warrant officers, midshipmen, instructors and engineers at different times between 1774 - 1860.
Two of the buttons have a smooth edge. Smooth edge. On a smooth background is an anchor with a rope tied to the ring at the top that goes under the left-hand stock, then under the shank to the right, then back under the shank to the left, then under the left arm, curling under the crown to the right and then under the right arm. Commissioned officers.
One button has a rope twist edge. On a smooth background is an anchor.
One partial button. On a smooth background is an anchor with the rope tied to the ring at the top, it goes under the right-hand side of the stock, then under the shank to the left. The detail on the lower half of the button is very worn.
