Corrector magnet bracket - submarine binnacle
This bracket is for ACO.2250 and has bearings for knife-edge gimbal pivots, the outer pivots being athwartships. It is mounted on two vertical rods of square cross-section, each having a rack. Attached to these rods by cross-bars are two similar rods. One of the first two rods carries a vertical tube for the heeling error magnets and by means of the rack the whole tube can be raised or lowered giving fine adjustment. On the second rack is a rack for four tubes for 4" athwartships magnets, while the third and fourth racks each carry a similar rack for fore and aft magnets. On the top of the last two rods is a lens and along with two mirrors at different heights in a long tube forms the optical system. A light above the compass shone through perforations in the metal card and, by means of the lens, an image was reflected on one or other of the mirrors, either of which could be hinged into place.
