Boat's liquid compass

Bowl-Black painted brass, filler plug fitted at centre of expansion chamber which is fitted to base of bowl. A heavy metal domed balancing weight is secured to base. Inside of bowl painted white with two black painted lubber lines 180 degs apart. Mounted in brass gimbal ring 4.75" (12cm) diameter, whcih is secured on a spring suspension of two brass rings of square section 5.5"(14cm) in diameter connected together by vertical links. The whole mounted in a black metal box 6.26 x 6.26 x 3,5" (16 x 16 x 9cm)
Card-Diameter:2.9" (7.5cm) white painted mica (?) with black markings, graduated to 360 degs. and with 16 points spelt in German. Attached to a large shallow domed float at centre.
