Dirk

Curved bladed dirk, the hilt of the dirk is gilt and consists of inversed quillons, which are embossed with acanthus leaves. The dirk has a lion's-head pommel and a knurled ivory grip. The steel blade is curved. The brown leather scabbard is decorated with tooling and has two gilt lockets, with rings to both lockets and a frog stud to the upper one and a gilt chape. The reverse of the upper locket is engraved with the words 'Read Sword Cutler Portsmo'. It is thought that the dirk is early in date, as evidenced by the not-too-sophisticated form of the curved blade.
