Cutlass
Cutlass, the hilt of the cutlass consists of a half-basket guard, which is riveted to the knuckle-bow. The hilt of the cutlass is stamped on the inside with '17M' and '284'. The cutlass has a brass helmet-shaped pommel. The cutlass has a leather grip. The steel blade is slightly curved, with a broad groove running within 178mm of point. The obverse of the blade is engraved with an anchor motif and 'U.S.N.' and 'D.R. 1862'. The reverse of the blade is engraved with the words 'MADE BY AMES MFG. CO. CHICOPEE'.
