Liquid compass

Liquid compass.

Bowl: Grey painted brass, filler plug at side, expansion chamber at base. A heavy balancing ring incorporating a light fitting fitted to base. Inside of bowl black with four black lubber lines carried on white plastic strips, mounted 90 degrees apart, attached to base of bowl. The high domed verge glass is fitted with a brass spigot at centre, to attach azimuth sight, and a black painted brass band with an expanded centre around spigot is fitted over diameter. Verge ring is fitted with two pairs of vertical cylindrical corrector magnet holders.

Card: Diameter 6.9" (17.5 cm) White plastic ring with black markings, graduated to 360 degrees, attached by brass framework to white plastic float at centre.

Needle: Unsighted, but contained in float.

Pivot: Plastic stem attached to base of bowl carries a brass rod at the tip of which is a jewelled pivot cup. An inverted pivot point carried at centre of float engages in the pivot cup.
