Compass card

Dry compass card; with testing certificate

Card: Consists of an aluminium rim and centre boss between which are stretched 32 silk threads. A black paper band 2" wide is attached partly to the rim and partly to the threads. The paper band has white markings except for the degree marks which are black on white, and is graduated to 1/4 points and quadrantally in degrees. It is slit at intervals to avoid distortion. The aperture between the boss and the paper band is filled in with thin black paper.

Pivot: Consists of an aluminium washer to which is attached the silk threads.

Needle: Eight thin magnets, in two sets of four, are suspended beneath the card by silk threads. Length of needles : 2 x 2.25" (5.6 cm), 2 x 2.75" (7.0 cm), 2 x 3.25" (8.3 cm), 2 x 3.5" (8.7 cm)

In wooden box containing 1 cap & 1 pivot stem.
