Dry compass

Card: Consists of a paper band attached to a metal circumference and metal centre by fine silk threads. The paper is white with black markings graduated to 1/4 points and quadrantally in degrees. There is a silver paper centre.

Pivot: Consists only of a this aluminium "washer" which holds the radial silk threads.

Needle: The eight needles, two sets of four, are thin. They are suspended beneath the card by a different silk thread system to that of the card. Length 3.5" (8.7 cm), 3.25" (8.3 cm), 2.75" (7.0 cm) and 2.25" (5.6 cm)
