9892

Pocket watch in a hallmarked silver pair-case. It has a full-plate capped fusee movement, signed and numbered, with a rack-lever escapement and plain balance. The watch has a white enamel dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds hand, and blued steel spade-and-poker hands. The outer case contains the watch repair paper of Edward Cant & Son, Barking Road, London. During the first part of the nineteenth century Robert Roskell produced many thousands of these watches with rack-lever escapements to a design patented by Peter Litherland in 1791. Large quantities of these were intended for export, especially to the U.S.A.
