Dry compass

Card-Mica covered with paper, white with black and white markings, graduated to 1/4 points and quadrantally in degs.
Needle- One solid edge bar needle, 7.65" long having a heavy centre boss with an aperture, 1.15" dia. in which the pivot cap is mounted. Two brass strips carrying sliding weights are fitted in E-W direction. The whole is mounted on a light metal ring screwed to card.
Pivot- Heavy cone-shaped brass pivot cap mounted in central aperture in double gimbals and attached to needle by two brass knee pieces.
