Dry compass

Card-Mica covered with paper, white with white and black markings, graduated to 1/4 points and quadrantally in degrees.
Needle- Four edge bar needles, 2 x 3" and 2 x 2.25" long 0.4" deep, each composed of three laminations of steel. Mounted 0.75" apart on a light metal ring 2.75" dia. screwed to card.
Pivot-Small cone-shaped brass pivot cap with jewel at top screwed through centre plate of light brass framework consisting of four arms 5.5" long radiating from centre and secured to the metal ring, carrying the needles, and the ends screwed to card, each carrying sliding weights.
