Dry compass
Card: Mica covered with paper, white with black markings, graduated to quarter points and quadrantally in degrees, has decorated E point. Has Brazilian Royal Coat of Arms at N point.
Needle: Two edge bar needles with rounded ends 8.5" long, 0.4" deep, 3.5" apart. Mounted on two light bars secured between ends of needles and screwed to card.
Pivot: Large cone shaped brass pivot cap 0.75" dia. with white metal bearing at top, screwed through centre plate of bracket hving two short arms which are attached to the two needles.
