Dry compass

Card: Mica covered with paper. Brownish with black markings graduated to half points and in degrees 0 - 180 East and West from North. Hollow centre with metal angled bridge holding pivot spike. Two slits in card to accommodate needles. Royal Coat of Arms at North point. Two weights screwed on to underside of card.

Needle: Two edge bar needles attached at centre so are free to show dip. 6" (15.3 cm) x 1/4" (0.6 cm) deep.

Pivot: Brass and steel spike suspended above card by bridge.
