Dry compass

Card: Mica covered with paper. Black with markings, graduated to half points with a decorated E point.

Needle: T shaped with the vertical "fin" cut away at the centre to accommodate jewel cap. Has an expanded centre with a hole cut in it to take the pivot cap. Length 5.0" (12.7 cm)

Pivot: A long cone shaped heavy brass cup fitted with jewelled pivot at top, attached through hole at centre of needle. As the point of suspension is 0.75" above the plane of the card a small metal disc is secured to the lower end of the cap. This disc has a hole through which the pivot passes to the cup.
